Augustin Zegrean, former head of Romania’s Constitutional Court, signed with a law firm already well-rated in Romania: Cuculis and Associates. Our sources say that Augustin Zegrean started as associate of the law firm. Also, he will coordinate the “Cuculis and Associates” office in Cluj Napoca. The former head of the Constitutional Court will also be in charge of the unconstitutionality department.
Cuculis&Associates is a law firm with 25 lawyers and a turnover of over 1 million euro annually. It works at both national and European level. It managed to make a name for itself through its adversity towards those who abuse their positions and power. The example of the unfair terms “promoted” by banks is maybe the best known but not the only one.
As far as Augustin Zegrean is concerned, he was appointed judge of Romania’s Constitutional Court in 2007, for a 9-year mandate. Starting 2010 he was president of the CCR. Towards the end of his mandate he defined in an exceptional manner how a politically-named Constitutional Court can function apolitically: “We, at the CCR, are like monks. Monks meet without knowing each other, live without loving each other and die without complaining.” Unfortunately many of his successors at the CCR did not read it.
