11 European states came to Romania’s assistance in the attempt to limit the number of deaths and serious cases. Of course, the aid was demanded by our country, by ESD, invoking that European solidarity mechanism. Hungary is the first country that jumped in to help and offered to treat 50 serious cases of COVID.
Serbia, although not part of the EU, sent extremely important medicine and even offered to take in a few patients. Then Poland, Germany, Denmark followed suit. The latter surprised everyone by taking the decision to send two medical teams to help in the ICUs. Then it took patients. And the Netherlands provided no less than 550 oxygen concentrators.
On the other hand, Spain’s lack of reaction is surprising, the country with one of the biggest Romanian communities. Or that of Greece… Then, even if we are talking about an aid mechanism provided by the EU, maybe it would have been nice if our strategic partner, the United States of America, had helped us, not only with an experimental nuclear power miniplant.
All in all, European solidarity does exist. And we better remember that when others need our help. Regardless of the present context. “Policies to pay” are for the small ones, for those who believe they have time to lose judging others.
